Village People – Y.M.C.A.

Love it or hate it, “Y.M.C.A.” is one of the most recognized songs of all-time.  The Village People formed in NYC as a disco vocal group, and had gold records with “Macho Man” and “In The Navy”.  What made the Village People so unique, was that they all played a specific role.  There was a policeman, cowboy, construction worker, Indian chief, biker & G.I.  For all you trivia buffs out there, “Y.M.C.A’ stands for Young Men’s Christian Association.  In late 1978 “Y.M.C.A.” was released in America and spent 3 weeks at the #2 position, earning platinum status and also becoming one of the defining songs of the “Disco” era, but like the era itself, The Village People were off the radar screen come the 1980’s.  With its thumping horn sound, infectious rhythm, and easy hand motions during the chorus, “Y.M.C.A,” has become one of the most definitive party/wedding songs of all-time.
