Barry Manilow – Copacabana (At the Copa).

Born Barry Alan Pincus in 1946 in Brooklyn, NY Barry Manilow is a man who has done it all. Performing at New York’s Continental Baths bathhouse/nightclub as Bette Midler’s accompanist in 1972, and also writing commercial jingles for Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, State Farm (“and like a good neighboor State Farm is there”), Bandaides, and McDonalds (“You Deserve A Break Today”). Barry Manilow was and is best known for his syrupy ballads including #1 hits : “Mandy”, “I Write The Songs”,and “Looks Like We Made It”. In 1978, the movie “Foul Play” starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase was released and along with it came two hit singles by Barry Manilow : “Ready To Take A Chance Again”, and the smash hit “Copacabana (At the Copa)”. A departure of sorts for Manilow considering what he is largely remembered for. With a touch of a mambo, salsa, meringue, pop, and unforgettable lyrics, Copacabana (At the Copa) has gone down as one of the most definitive party/wedding songs of all-time.
