The B-52’s – Love Shack

The B-52’s formed in 1977 in Athens, Georgia as a new wave dance group with Fred Schneider as their lead singer.  They recorded the cult favorite, “Rock Lobster” (charted in 1980) but never found much chart success until “Love Shack”.  “Love Shack is a song that came along at a perfect time for The B-52’s for their popularity had been growing as more and more people were turning towards music other than straight pop, and MTV played their video in heavy rotation which also led to heavy exposure on the airwaves.  The culmination of all of this led The B-52’s to a #3 smash (gold single – charted in 1989) and more opportunities within the music and entertainment world.  The B-52s’ later hits included another Top 10 smash called “Roam” (gold single – charted in late 1989), and later the theme song to “The Flintstones” (actual title is “(Meet) The Flintstones”) soundtrack starring John Goodman in 1994.  For all you trivia buffs out there, B-52 stands for the bouffant hairstyle worn by the two female members of The B-52’s, Kate & Cindy.  With its infectious feel good rhythm and party-like atmosphere, “Love Shack” has gone down as one of the most definitive party/wedding songs of all-time.
