Los Del Rio (Bayside Boys Mix) – Macarena
Flamenco guitar duo Los Del Rio from Spain formed in the 1960’s and consisted of Antonio Romero Monge and Rafael Ruiz Perdigones. “Macarena” was released
in September 1995, but peaked at #45. The song was then remixed by the Miami production team of The Bayside Boys in 1996, and spent an amazing 14 weeks at #1 in America, and prompted a worldwide dance
craze. The song went platinum many times over and spurned other less successful “Macarena” spinoffs. According to Billboard, it is the second biggest song of the Rock era (1955 – present) behind “One
Sweet Day” by Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, which spent a record 16 weeks at #1. After the craze subsided, Los Del Rio was never to be heard from again on American soil, but the song goes down as one of the
most definitive party/wedding songs of all-time.
