Ricky Martin – The Cup Of Life.

Born Enrique Martin on 12/24/71 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin was destined to be a star.  A member of the international supergroup Menudo from 1984-88, Ricky led millions of adoring young female fans to his feet.  Due to the rule stating that members of the group must leave Menudo at age 16, Ricky soon ventured into other aspects of the entertainment world.  Ricky acted in the soap opera General Hospital, and also on Broadway in the critically acclaimed Les Miserables, however, it wasn’t until the 1999 Grammy awards that Ricky Martin became a household name in America.  With an electrifying performance that spiced up an otherwise dull awards show, Ricky created a buzz and is largely responsible for the Latin invasion.  The song that started it all was “Livin’ La Vida Loca”, which spent 5 weeks at #1.  More importantly, it paved the way for other Latinos including Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, and the rejuvenated Santana to name a few.  The song that set the stage for “Livin’ La Vida Loca” was “The Cup Of Life” which was the World Cup song in 1998.  While millions of adoring fans all over the world knew that “The Cup Of Life” and Ricky were dazzling, America missed the proverbial boat which prompted it to peak at #45.  Ricky Martin has become one of Popular music’s shining star and “The Cup Of Life” has become one of the most definitive party/wedding songs of all-time.
